Who we are

Helm (also shown as “Helm: TV Remote”) is an Android app published by SCOGs Applications that lets you control an Apple TV on your own home network — directional pad, playback, now-playing, launching apps, keyboard entry, and finding a misplaced physical remote.

The app is a local network client. There is no account to create, no login, and no server of ours that stores your personal data. The app talks directly to your Apple TV over your Wi-Fi network, and your settings and pairing data stay on your device. To improve the app and fix crashes, it collects pseudonymous usage and stability data through Google Firebase, described in detail below. This policy explains exactly what we do and don't collect.

Data we collect (and don't)

We do not collect personal data that identifies you. We have no account system and no server of our own that holds your data. The only information we collect from your device is pseudonymous usage and crash data, collected through Google Firebase (see Analytics and crash reporting).

Specifically:

• We do not collect your name, email, phone number, or contacts.
• We do not use advertising, ad networks, or cross-app tracking, and we do not use your device's advertising ID.
• We do not sell your data or share it with data brokers.
• We do not see your local-network traffic, your Apple TV pairing credentials, or what you watch — those never leave your device.

What we do collect is limited to pseudonymous product-usage events and crash diagnostics, described below, and is not used to identify you personally.

How the app uses on-device data

To do its job, the app stores a small amount of information locally on your device only (in Android's app-private storage). This on-device data is separate from the pseudonymous analytics described later. With one exception, noted below, it does not leave your phone:

• Paired Apple TV credentials — the keys created when you pair with your Apple TV, used to authenticate the connection so you can control it.
• Saved devices — Apple TVs you've paired with or added by IP address (host, port, display name, model, and optional room label), so they appear instantly next time.
• App settings — your preferences, such as D-pad style, the now-playing overlay toggle, default-to-now-playing, room detection, your analytics choice, and which of the two analytics consent models described below applies to your install.
• Room detection preference — whether room detection is on. When it is on, the app runs one brief Bluetooth scan as you open it to see which of your Apple TVs you are nearest. Nothing from that scan is stored.
• Trial and purchase state — a local first-launch timestamp for the on-device trial, a cached record of whether you've unlocked premium features, and a randomly generated identifier used with Google Play Billing (see Purchases).

This data lives in your app's private storage. It is used only to make the app work and is removed when you uninstall the app. The one exception is the trial and purchase state above, which Android's backup service can restore after a reinstall (see Backup and device transfer).
